Microcontroller designed for motor drive

3 July 2002 DSP, Micros & Memory

The XC 164 CS is a new derivative of Infineon's popular C 166 microcontroller family. Based on the enhanced C 166 S V2 architecture, it is claimed to outperform existing 16-bit solutions. Impressive DSP performance and advanced interrupt handling combined with a powerful integrated peripheral set and high-performance on-chip flash or ROM memory make the XC 164 CS highly suited for demanding industrial and automotive applications such as synchronous DC motor control, future headlight concepts or effective power steering solutions.

It has a flexible and intelligent PWM unit that simplifies control of AC, DC or reluctance motors. A high-speed, high-resolving ADC handles the fast and accurate translation of complex analog environments. Implementation of networked solutions is also eased with the high-speed TwinCAN module with autonomous gateway function.

Key features:

* High-performance 16-bit C 166 S V2 architecture with 25 ns instruction time.

* DSP support with built-in advanced MAC support.

* 128 KB advanced embedded flash or ROM memory.

* TwinCAN module, two full CAN nodes with 32 message buffers and gateway functionality.

* CAPCOM6E module dedicated to PWM generation for AC and DC motor control.

* Small package.
