Gear tooth sensor IC

3 July 2002 Switches, Relays & Keypads

Allegro MicroSystems' A3064LKA AC-coupled Hall-effect gear-tooth sensor in monolithic IC form switches in response to changing differential magnetic fields created by moving ferrous targets. It is suited to use in nonzero-speed, gear-tooth-based sensing of speed, position and timing in automotive applications. With back-biasing magnet, the sensor can be configured to turn on or off on the leading or trailing edge of a gear tooth or slot. Differential sensing provides immunity to radial vibration. Steady-state magnet and system offsets are eliminated using an on-chip differential bandpass filter, which also protects from RF and EM interference. The 5-pin plastic sensor has on-chip temperature compensation and Schmitt trigger circuitry for operation down to low frequencies over a wide range of airgaps and temperatures. Operates from 4,5 to 24 V and output switches 20 mA over full frequency response range (up to 30 kHz).
