In addition to the existing AUTO series of disk varistors for automotive voltages of 12 and 24 V, EPCOS has now developed the 42 V PowerNet series for the future 42 V automotive power supply system. They are available in disk sizes of 7, 10, 14 and 20 mm. Depending on their diameter, they can withstand transient surge currents from 250 A (7 mm) to 2000 A (20 mm). They cover a wide operating temperature range from -40 to +125°C.
Another feature is their high temperature reversal stability of 1000 cycles - an essential criterion for reliability in automobiles. These varistors reliably prevent voltage surges triggered by inductive loads such as motors for windshield wipers, power windows, fans, sunroofs, etc.
