Toroidal rheostats

17 July 2002 Passive Components

OFEL offers rheostats made of a toroidally shaped ring, which is wound with resistive wire and fixed to a disk-shaped ceramic support with vitreous enamel. The toroid is completely covered with vitreous enamel, except for a contact tray on which a wiper runs. (In the TP version the facing is in ceramic cement.)

Temperature coefficient is usually lower than 70 ppm/°C, except with very low values when it is higher. It is always positive. For ordinary applications it is recommended not to exceed 340°C at the hottest point. Earth insulation is rated to 1000 V.

These rheostats are produced in E12 ohm values or can be custom ordered with any ohm value. The usual tolerance of ohm values is -0 +20%.

The TS type is enamelled whereas the TP type is case hardened.
