Wide input miniature DC-DC converters

14 August 2002 Power Electronics / Power Management

Recom has expanded its family of miniature, isolated DC-DC converters with a 2 W, 2:1 input converter for input voltage ranges from 5-9 V, 9-18 V, 18-36 V and 36-72 V d.c.

Supplied in a 7-pin, UL 94 V-0 rated SIP package, with dimensions of 21,8 x 11,1 x 9,2 mm, the 'RS' series is ideally suited for space-limited and portable applications, operating with nonstandard voltages that can vary. Available with single-ended, regulated output voltages of 5, 9, 12 and 15 V d.c. as standard, all the devices feature 1 kV d.c. galvanic isolation between input and output.

The new 'RS' converters provide full protection against continuous short circuit and guarantee full 2 W specification at operating temperatures ranging from -25 to +71°C. This helps designers to further conserve board space by eliminating the need for external cooling in applications that are designed to operate within the full industrial temperature range.
