Philips Semiconductors' CapFREE SA57000 is part of a series of low-noise, low-dropout regulators. While other devices may appear to be capacitor-free, most have restrictions on capacitive load and require a noise bypass capacitor. The SA57000 150 mA low-noise, low-dropout regulator with thermal protection requires no output capacitor, and is stable for all capacitive loads, regardless of ESR. It offers a low output noise voltage of 30 µV r.m.s., without noise bypass capacitor, as well as an ultra-low dropout voltage of 55 mV at 50 mA output current.
The SA57000 has an extremely low quiescent operating ground pin current, typically 85 µA, so it uses less power. The part also includes thermal overload and short circuit protection by way of a logic-controlled shutdown provided by a 'power on' pin. It shuts down if the temperature exceeds 144°C. A 'power OK' pin, which serves as a power status and thermal warning indicator, indicates a drop in nominal Vout of 6%, as well as flags when the chip temperature exceeds 127°C.
The device is offered in output voltages of 2,5, 2,8, 3,0, 3,3 V, and 3,6 V. Other voltages are available on request. Maximum line regulation is 0,1%/V and max load regulation 0,02%/mA. It comes in 5-lead SOT23 package.
