Chip-cap filtered D-Sub connectors

10 September 2002 Interconnection

Spectrum Control's Series 100 Chip-Cap filtered connector product line incorporate chip capacitors surface mounted on an integrated PCB. Available through the company's sole authorised local distributor, Electronic Industry Supplies, these connectors are designed as a low-cost filtering method for the elimination of electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The Series 100 Chip-Cap connectors feature a dielectric withstanding voltage of 700 V d.c. (for 5 s), and a current rating of 5 A. Capacitance values include 50, 100, 180, 220, 470, 820, 1000, 1500, 2200, 5600, and 47 000 pF with an insulation resistance of 500 MOhm. They are available in 9, 15, 25 and 37-position male or female contacts and are compatible with full metal shell cable connectors. Right angle PCB mount, vertical PCB mount and solder cup termination styles are all available in 8 or 15 mm footprints and can be used as a drop-in replacement for unfiltered designs. A pin-socket adapter style is also offered.

The connector uses #4-40 threaded insert mating hardware and integral boardlocks for secure posting before soldering. In addition, the connector housings are made of UL94V-0 rated thermoplastic for flame retardancy and durability.

Series 100 connectors are for use in network servers, firewalls, routers, test and diagnostic equipment, medical monitoring equipment, and I/O interfaces on many PC computer applications.
