Maxim's MAX5003 high-voltage PWM DC-DC controller is specifically optimised to meet the stringent demands placed on fixed telecom and data communications power supplies. It is designed for use in an isolated or nonisolated flyback or forward voltage-mode DC-DC converter.
The MAX5003 includes an internal 110 V start-up transistor and preregulator circuitry that the company says improves efficiency, reduces system cost and allows more compact power supply designs over comparable solutions requiring additional external components. The device is capable of up to 300 kHz switching frequency and can use low value ceramic output capacitors - attributes that allow use of a low-profile transformer and small-footprint surface-mount capacitors. The MAX5003 features a wide 11 to 110 V input voltage range, ±2,5% VREF accuracy over the operating temperature range and only 2,2 mA supply current. The device's input feed-forward compensation circuitry allows fast line-transient response.
Features such as current limit, oscillator frequency, maximum duty cycle, under-voltage lockout and soft-start are programmable with a minimum number of external components. It can be externally synchronised to operate from a common system clock.
