Focusing on embedded Internet enabled products and solutions, Climax Electronics is offering the IPC@CHIP as an embedded controller designed to Web or LAN-enable products.
The IPC@CHIP is a combination of hardware and software. The hardware consists of a 16-bit 186 CPU, 512K RAM, 512K Flash, Ethernet, Watchdog and power-fail detection. The size of the memory and the speed of the CPU varies with different models of the IPC@CHIP.
The CPU includes functions such as timers, I/O lines, two serial ports. This hardware is packaged in a small 32 pin DIL package. The software consists of a realtime operating system (RTOS) with file system, TCP/IP stack, web server, FTP server, Telnet server, PPP and hardware interface layer. The software is pre-installed on the device, making the IPC@CHIP immediately operational as shipped.
Users write their application as a 16-Bit DOS application. The RTOS can load up to 12 applications in RAM where each executes in a separate task. From the application, one can access the RTOS to create tasks, open TCP sockets, etc, using software interrupts.
Climax Electronics offers a starter kit that includes all the necessary hardware and software (Borland C/C++ V5.02, a free source level debugger) to evaluate and develop applications using the IPC@CHIP.
