Handheld spectrum analyser

23 October 2002 Test & Measurement

Anritsu has introduced the MS2711B handheld spectrum analyser that simplifies the testing and analysis of today's complex digital wireless signals, many of which are transmitted near the system noise level. Anritsu's MS2711B also has a built-in tracking generator option, which is ideal for tuning of cavity filters, adjusting repeater gain and antenna alignment.

Using the MS2711B's measurement function, dedicated one-button measurements, including channel power, adjacent channel power ratio and occupied bandwidth, can confirm the distortion level or channel power performance of a transmitter. The result is quick and easy measurements on AMPS, TDMA, CDMA and GSM base stations. Additionally, the MS2711B can conduct a series of spurious measurements when analysing a wireless base station transmitter. It also features a field strength mode to measure propagation and coverage or to pinpoint electromagnetic (EM) leakage in broadcast systems.

The MS2711B also exhibits several new features that make testing cellular, DCS/PCS, paging, WLAN (IEEE 802.11, 802.11b and Bluetooth) and other communications systems easier. For example, the dynamic attenuation feature tracks the input signal level and automatically adjusts the reference level to protect the MS2711B in situations of high RF signal levels, or activates the preamplifier in instances of low-level RF signal input. This results in improved measurement accuracy. Trace averaging allows users to make more accurate noise measurements.

It also features a multilingual user interface with on-screen menus and messages in six-different languages, and a 75 W interface that enables users to conduct measurements of 75 Ohm systems without sacrificing measurement accuracy. Combining more performance in a smaller package (2,2 kg, including battery), the MS2711B enables users to quickly and easily locate, identify, record and solve many of today's wireless communication systems problems.

For installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting a modern wireless communication system, the MS2711B offers superior performance combined with ease-of-use and broad functionality for engineers and technicians who conduct measurements in the 100 kHz to 3,0 GHz frequency range.
