In August 2002 Horizon Electronics, one of the largest frequency control component manufacturers in China, achieved its ISO9001:2000 and QS9000:1994 certifications, thereby adding a design arm to its manufacturing and services scope which was certified five years ago. Based in China, Horizon is a specialist in frequency control components and offers customers a complete line of crystals, oscillators, VCXOs, TCXOs, filters and saw devices. The company's monthly capacity is 20 million units.
Horizon's representative in South Africa, Arrow Altech Distribution, says that the company is now able to aid customers in the design of new products, to tailor existing products to fit their needs, and to meet an ever-growing demand for speed, bandwidth, flexibility and affordability.
Realising that cost reduction is a potent driving force in the industry, Horizon has invested in manufacturing automation, expanded its production capacity and diversified its product range to address this need. All manufacturing processes are now in-house, resulting in faster availability of important prototypes. Improved planning further allows the company to efficiently attend to 'must have' production pull-ins. Horizon boasts an array of tight-tolerance crystals and oscillators, VCXOs and TCXOs of various designs and packages.
According to the company, the widespread expansion of wireless, handheld and portable equipment markets has highlighted two important development directions: Miniaturisation of crystals with lower resistance and miniaturisation of oscillators with lower operating voltages. To meet this demand Horizon manufactures 7x5 mm and 6x3,5 mm crystals as well as 3,3 V oscillators in surface mount packages, preserving the performance of traditional thru-hole technology in tiny, tight oscillator and T-VCXO SMD formatted versions.
