On-line power system design centre

Power Electronics / Power Management
International Rectifier has introduced an Internet-based design and simulation tool to help cut design time for advanced power systems. The myPower Online Design Center incorporates a free simulation tool that delivers high accuracy (±5%) at very high speed (less than 5 seconds) and provides customised design kits that IR says can be delivered ex-USA within three days.
Unlike other web-based design tools available, this on-line design system offers the very high accuracy needed for design optimisation, rather than idealised waveform, getting the designer as close as possible to the final electrical solution in the shortest time. Power systems design is getting more complex as power density and system functionalities increase exponentially. Design complexity is specifically acute in the fast moving digital world of information technology. The myPower Online Design Center is operational for DC-DC converters operating in the range of 20 A to 80 A currents, 200 kHz to 1000 kHz frequencies and 1,1 V to 1,85 V output voltages.
The designer begins by providing his system requirements. myPower generates a customised design, including complete bill of materials. The designer can run a simulation to verify system behaviour, and optimise the circuit for performance and cost, eliminating much of the traditional breadboarding development time. The simulator is capable of generating waveforms for step loads, changing input voltages, steady state transient analysis and a complete AC analysis.
The myPower Online Design Center can be found at http://myPower.irf.com. Use is free. Once a design is completed a custom kit which includes a standard, fully assembled and tested PCB with a kit of parts to match the bill of materials can be ordered for final prototyping.
