The improved Xytronic 968 is a controlled temperature handheld desoldering station. The self-contained 'High Flo' diaphragm vacuum pump is engineered to provide continuous, maintenance-free operation, delivering an 'amazingly quiet' vacuum force of over 60 cm/Hg. The vacuum actuation occurs on-demand via a finger-actuated thyristor circuit located for ease of operation on the desoldering handle. The nichrome element wire is precision wound at the end of the stainless steel barrel to ensure maximum temperature as close to the working surface of the tip as possible. This results in both rapid heat-up and instant recovery.

Xytronic's design incorporates electronic circuitry that enables the user to fine tune tip temperature without wasting time changing tips. Zero voltage electronic switching protects voltage and current-sensitive components (CMOS devices, etc) against current and transient voltage spikes commonly produced by poorly designed, mechanically switched stations. The power unit is isolated from the AC line by a transformer that feeds only 24 V a.c. to drive all heating elements. Tip leakage is less than 0,4 mV and 0,5 Ohm resistance.
