16-/14-bit ADCs with parallel interface

12 February 2003 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Maxim has introduced a family of 16-/14-bit ADCs with an analog input voltage range of 0 to 10 V, ±5 V, or ±10 V. This ADC family includes: the 16-bit-wide parallel interface devices (MAX1157/MAX1159/MAX1175/MAX1179/MAX1187/MAX1189) in 28-pin TSSOP package, and the 8-bit wide parallel interface devices (MAX1156/MAX1158/MAX1174/MAX1177/MAX1178/MAX1188) in 20-pin TSSOP package.

These ADCs connect directly to microcontrollers and DSPs through an 8-bit or 16-bit-wide parallel interface. They have superior AC performance (THD = -100 dB) and DC accuracy (±1LSB INL) making them highly suited for industrial process control, instrumentation, and medical applications.

The ADCs operate from a single +5 V supply and feature a separate DVDD pin, which allows for direct interfacing to 2,7 V to 5,25 V digital logic. Low-power operation consumes only 23 mW at the maximum conversion rate of 135 ksps. Automatic shutdown between conversions reduces operating current to 0,4 mA at 10 ksps. An internal 4,096 V or external reference determines the full-scale analog input range. They are offered in both extended and commercial temperature ranges.
