SMT mounter for small-sized and narrow components

26 February 2003 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services Surveillance

Yamaha has introduced the Mini Module Mounter YT-16, which it has dubbed 'ThreeM'. This SMT mounter is used in the production of a small-sized and narrow components type of printed circuit board. Set up as a connected line of a number of ThreeMs makes for a high output and for a production line system with superior accuracy.

In a mini-sized body (995 x 1275 x 1350 mm) the ThreeM can accommodate a wide range of components from 0603 and 1005 to 31 x 31 mm sizes. The one piece gantry frame has high rigidity and durability that was developed using FEM modal analysis. It is made from high strength cast iron.

The mounter has four fully-servo-controlled in-line high-speed heads with independent Z axes. A high resolution digital multicamera contributes to the superior mounting accuracy of ±50 µm for 1005 and 0603 chip components. The system called MACS (multiple accuracy compensation system) takes into account the various factors of the machine that may influence the mounting accuracy and performs comprehensive and multiple compensation. Mounting accuracy is 0,05 mm (µ+3 sigma) and mounting speed 0,3 s/chip.

The machine is also fully usable in the heat cycle environment (ie, repeated morning/afternoon or day/night temperature fluctuations). Automatic feedback maintains accuracy against material change. PCB sizes of 50 x 30 mm to 330 x 250 mm, and thicknesses of 0,4 to 3,0 mm can be accommodated.
