Improved electronic relay for telecom, instrumentation and industrial control applications

12 March 2003 Switches, Relays & Keypads

International Rectifier is offering its PVT412A Series microelectronic relay (MER) that has two times more load current capability at ±400 V off-state blocking with less than one-quarter device on-resistance than the company's earlier PVT412 Series MER.

More efficient and robust than the previous devices, the new MERs can replace electromechanical relays, enabling significant gains in operational life and reliability over electromechanical relays, with smaller size and higher sensitivity. Other benefits include bounce-free (noiseless) switching, reduced power consumption through lower actuation currents and high levels of immunity to shock and vibration.

Typical applications for the PVT412A Series devices include on/off hookswitch, ringer injection, ground start and general switching. In addition to telecom applications, the PVT412A devices can replace electromechanical and reed relays in applications where high reliability and low on-resistance is required, such as remote utility metering and high voltage AC and DC industrial load switching.

The devices are rated for AC/DC load switching applications up to 240 V a.c. rms and 300 V d.c. at 240 mA, and DC-only loads up to 300 V at 360 mA. In addition, the 4000 V a.c. rms input-to-output isolation rating meets the stringent international electrical safety requirements.
