Slim, low-power relay handles industrial loads

Designing equipment for heating, ventilating and airconditioning applications (HVAC) requires relays capable of switching heavy loads usually at the cost of high power consumption. Fujitsu Takamisawa has made it easier to address this trade-off with its FTR-JR printed circuit board slim relay.
This relay switches 16 A loads using 35% less power than the company's previous-generation relay. With a dielectric of 5000 V between open contacts and a surge withstand of 10 000 V between coil and contacts, this relay boasts just 530 mW nominal power, according to the manufacturer.
Not only does the JR offer power consumption, it is also designed for safety. The relay features 9,5 mm insulation distance and 94V-0 flame-resistant insulation materials in compliance with UL Class B, CSA and VDE safety standards. To ensure ecological disposal, its contacts are cadmium-free and meet ISO 14000 requirements.
