Component distribution - the Arrow Altech 'difference'

26 March 2003 News

In today's component distribution industry, which is predominantly driven by cost and volume, it has become essential for local distribution companies to differentiate from the crowd by focusing on new, innovative products and by offering unique services and value added solutions.

Through its total commitment to continuously improve service levels, Arrow Altech Distribution (AAD) is one South African organisation that can offer customers a vast range of world-class value-added services.

Design and engineering

AAD has a team of qualified engineers, armed with expert knowledge of the latest products and technology on hand to assist with customers' designs. They are backed by full factory support from its specialist suppliers and can advise on all types of products - semiconductors, frequency control, passive, electromechanical and connectors. Contact details, together with each engineer's specialist technologies, are readily found on the company's website at www.arrow.altech.co.za.

AAD's access to Arrow's state-of-the-art European programming centre in Bedford, England, means that it can also offer clients a full programming service for parts without the need for the client to invest in expensive equipment.

Turnkey and kitting

Should a client's factory be at capacity, or if one wants to focus on the core competencies of design and marketing of one's products, AAD can procure the full bill of materials, assist with engineering for cost reduction, engage the contract manufacturer and deliver the completed product to the client or even the end customer. AAD already does this for numerous customers.

Experts in kitting - AAD consolidates all the components necessary for a production run and delivers them simultaneously to the customers' production line or stores. This has many advantages for customers, not least, that they only pay once all the components are delivered, which also helps with cash flow.

Stocking

Kanban (automated replenishment) is operated through Arrow's own CARES (customer automated replenishment system). AAD offers the lean supply of components without the need for customers to hold inventory, whilst at the same time minimising or eliminating shortages.

In terms of buffer stock holding, AAD will tailor its inventory to meet clients' needs, holding enough stock to cater for variations in demand for the clients' products. Through this comes greater flexibility and faster time to market. For supply chain management the company offers many services that cannot be covered here. Please contact AAD to discuss specific requirements.
