Multiphase oscillator cuts EMI

Linear Technology's LTC6902 is a precision resistor programmable oscillator that provides up to four output phases. Said to be easy-to-use, its frequency can be varied from 5 to 20 MHz with 1,5% accuracy and 40 ppm/°C temperature stability using a single external resistor. Ideal for reducing switching regulator-induced EMI, the output can be spread spectrum frequency modulated (SSFM), with the amount of spread set by a second resistor. The LTC6902 uses a pseudorandom noise (PRN) technique to spread the oscillator's energy over a wide frequency band, thereby decreasing peak electromagnetic radiation. It also offers fast start-up time (50 µs to 1,5 ms) and high immunity from shock and vibration, unlike crystal-based solutions. It operates over 2,7 to 5,5 V supply, and typically draws 400 µA at 3 V at 1 MHz output frequency.
