Turnkey DC power rack and cabinet systems

26 May 2021 Power Electronics / Power Management

EA’s flexible high-power DC supplies and electronic loads are integrated into 19-inch rack power supply or closed cabinet solutions and can be cost-effectively adapted to a wide variety of user requirements, thanks to their modular design and the standardised power and protection modules employed.

The 19-inch rack power supply or cabinet system can be designed as pure DC sources with power supplies, or as pure sinks with electronic loads. Furthermore, the power supplies can be conventional or bidirectional and the loads can be conventional or regenerative for a mix of source and sink capability. High power density units can be easily paralleled up to 1,92 MW in output, with up to 2000 V d.c.

The DC rack power supply and electronic loads each feature a 5-inch TFT touch panel display for intuitive control, setup and programming. The intelligent interface allows you to program and test quickly without the need for extensive manual review.

True auto ranging – advantages for test

All EA power supplies provide true auto ranging, giving full power across a larger operating range to test more devices with just one supply. Auto ranging enables the power supply to automatically adapt to higher output voltages when there is a smaller current, or handle higher currents when there is a lower voltage. EA’s true auto ranging can deliver full power down to 33% of rated output voltage.

Regenerative energy recovery

The PSB Series DC power supply is bidirectional, meaning it can source (provide) or sink (absorb) current and regenerate that current to the local power grid with up to 96% efficiency. Likewise, the ELR Series DC electronic load is regenerative, with the same energy recovery performance. This makes either solution an environmentally friendly choice on top of minimising investment and test equipment space.

Swappable Anybus remote control

EA ‘Anybus’ modules are easily installed by the user and can be swapped out in just a few minutes with a screwdriver when different communication protocols are desired. For computer or remote control, the choices include Ethernet, USB, EtherCAT, ProfiNET, ProfiBUS, CAN, CANOpen, Modbus, DeviceNet and RS-232 interfaces.
