Rawandan utility furthers relationship with SA revenue managment supplier

16 Feb 2000 News

A patented South African revenue management system implemented in Rwanda's capital city Kigali has proven so successful that the system will now be unrolled throughout the country.

Joseph Mugenga, Managing Director of Rwandan electricity utility Electrogaz said during a recent visit to Energy Measurements (EML) in Johannesburg that the Rwanda people have a more positive attitude to electricity and electricity consumption. "Feed-back from the users indicates they are very pleased with the Cashpower2000 system as they are in full control of their consumption.

"The revenue collections in the capital city, Kigali, have increased so dramatically that Electrogaz's aim is to utilise a prepayment system throughout the country. We have almost completed electrifying Kigali in this way. From there we will roll out into the surrounding areas," he said.

Mark Tibbenham, Managing Director of Energy Measurements, said "A project of this nature is an excellent example to the rest of Africa of how technical and system skills can be successfully transferred. We have had a presence in Rwanda for a number of years and we hope to continue this mutually beneficial partnership."

Energy Measurements is a joint venture company of Siemens and Spescom.
