Hammond Manufacturing’s well-known 1590 die-cast enclosure family offers robust, environmentally sealed housings with effective electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) screening in non-rectangular formats. These models, 1590TRP and 1590STP, provide additional flexibility for product designers who require strong aluminium enclosures, but want alternatives to the traditional rectangular form factor. Typical applications include audio equipment, guitar stomp boxes, industrial remote controllers, desktop switch arrays, and handheld test equipment.
The octagonal 1590STP enclosure measures 133 mm across the flats and 39 mm in height, allowing it to accommodate a circular PCB up to 126 mm in diameter. Two trapezoidal variants are also available, both with the same 39 mm height. The smaller portrait-format version measures 112 mm in length and tapers from 79 mm to 62 mm, while the larger landscape-format unit is 95 mm deep and narrows from 151 mm to 122 mm.
Manufactured from rugged die-cast aluminium alloy, the enclosures provide high mechanical strength, while remaining easy to machine for connectors, controls, and displays. A lap-joint construction improves EMI and RFI shielding and seals the enclosure to IP54, protecting internal electronics from dust ingress and splashing water.
The enclosures are available in a natural vibra-finished aluminium surface or with a durable polyester powder coating applied to the external surfaces. Colour options include black, cobalt blue (RAL 5013), green (RAL 6024), light grey (RAL 7035), orange (RAL 2009), and red (RAL 3011). The coating resists chipping during machining and provides an ideal surface for labels and silk-screen printing.
Together, these shapes extend the versatility of the 1590 family, giving designers additional mechanical options for compact electronic products that require both durability and electromagnetic shielding.
