Webb's acquisition of RCW pays dividends

29 April 2009 News

The purchase of Radio Comms Warehouse (RCW) by Webb Industries, wholly owned subsidiary of listed company Jasco, has been a success, according to Webb CEO Paul Richards. RCW was one of the first companies in South Africa to get NRCS – LOA clearance to the applicable SABS IEC 60950 standard, for its power modules in the radio communications industry.

Richards says the synergies have worked out as planned both from a culture and product point of view. “Our aim was to become a genuine one-stop shop for the two-way radio industry and we have managed to do that. Bringing into the Webb stable the wide range of Nova products like power modules and battery packs, battery chargers, heavy duty belt clips, ear-phone sets and many others, has supplemented the vast range of products for which Webb has become famous,” says Richards.

Webb’s product offering includes professional mobile radio antennas for a broad range of applications, base station antennas, a wide range of coaxial cables and connectors, duplexers and filters, earthing and lightning protection.

Clint Connolly, general manager of RCW, says that his company focuses on accessories for the wide range of two-way radios in Africa with toroidal DC power modules and two-way radio batteries being his biggest lines. He adds that while there has been some movement from toroidal to switch-mode power modules, RCW’s toroidal option is still the most robust and offers excellent results. “Our power modules still offer the best value,” he says. “In fact, because of their superior quality we have, in addition to the RF industry, successfully moved into the security industry, primarily CCTV cameras.

“We were one of the first companies in South Africa to get SABS certification and electronic clearance for power modules,” says Connolly, “and as SABS has adopted the European standard, a very strict code, we regard it as a major compliment for RCW to have been awarded this accreditation.”
