Card X conference and exhibition set for August
5 August 2009
Events
Card X 2009 is set to run on 20 and 21 August at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
Card X is aimed at serving the card industry by providing a platform for expert presenters from the industry to highlight the newest trends and innovations in the industry, both globally and locally. The conference will run alongside an exhibition of the industry's leading players.
This year’s event will be packed with invaluable advice, case studies, analysis, live demonstrations and even controversy.
The first day of the CardX starts with a presentation from Nedbank's Graeme Holmes on the evolution of consumer demand for cards. He will highlight the move from ATM to debit to credit cards, prepaid and loyalty schemes. Delegates will gain insight into different markets and what to expect from the future. This will be followed by a presentation on breaking the mould of traditional payment cards by Dougie Henderson of Mastercard, who look at new developments in Africa.
Sanjay Dharwadker from Sagem South Africa will follow with a case study looking at the rollout of cards in other African countries and a look at the maturity of the market in countries such as Nigeria and Kenya.
Adri Zaayman, head of card credit at Standard Bank, will address the touchy subject of what the real impact of the notorious credit crunch on local economies and the card market has been. Barry Fergus, a financial systems consultant, will continue this debate looking at what history can teach us about the future and recovering from the current global economic crisis.
The first day ends with a look at biometrics as well as a presentation on the evolution of smartcard technology.
The second day starts off by considering the emerging trends and technologies in POS systems and the role of cards in the retail industry. This is followed by an in-depth look at the prepaid concept, looking at what the real issues facing applications of this technology are.
The last two presentations on the second day look at public service delivery. Ndellie Mwanangulu-Massey, project manager at Sagem Security South Africa, discusses lessons learned in successfully deploying government-wide, smartcard-based projects in the public sector with the view to improve service delivery. Dr Moses B. Khanyile, general manager of strategy and business sustainment with AllPay Consolidated Investment Holdings Absa Retail Bank looks at the issues and innovations involved in social security payments.
The conference will be followed by a networking session where delegates, exhibitors and presenters can interact on a more informal basis.
