Silicon Laboratories has announced it now expects third quarter revenue to be up 18 to 21% sequentially to a record $123 to $126 million, an increase from the $114 to $119 million range previously forecasted, and well above quarterly peak revenue levels in 2008. The revenue upside is due to better than expected demand for both broadcast audio and MCU products. The strength in the broadcast audio business is resulting from better than seasonal demand in handsets at the company’s largest customer, which is expected to moderate in the fourth quarter, as well as a faster than expected ramp at a new consumer audio customer.

Semtech reported unaudited financial results for its second quarter of fiscal year 2010. Net revenues were $66,3 million, down 15% from the second quarter of fiscal year 2009 and up 10% compared to the first quarter of fiscal year 2010. Net income for the second quarter of fiscal year 2010, computed in accordance with US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), was $7,4 million or 12 cents per diluted share. GAAP net income was $11,7 million or 19 cents per diluted share in the second quarter of fiscal year 2009 and $4,9 million or 8 cents per diluted share in the first quarter of fiscal year 2010.

For the second fiscal quarter of 2009, Power Integrations announced net revenues of $49,3 million, down 8% from the second quarter of 2008 and up 22% compared with the prior quarter. Net income for the second quarter was $4,5 million, or $0,16 per diluted share, compared with net income of $7,6 million, or $0,23 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter, and net income of $0,4 million, or $0,01 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2009.

Micrel announced revenues of $51,8 million for the second quarter of 2009, an increase of $4,8 million, or 10%, from $47,0 million in the first quarter of 2009. Second quarter revenues were lower by $18,8 million, or 27%, from $70,6 million for the same period last year. The sequential increase was primarily due to strength in all major segments of the company’s business with primary growth coming from markets in China. Second quarter 2009 GAAP net income of $3,9 million, or $0,06 per diluted share compares to first quarter 2009 GAAP net income of $1,5 million, or $0,02 per diluted share, and GAAP net income of $7,4 million or $0,10 per diluted share in the same period in 2008.

LeCroy reported fourth quarter fiscal 2009 revenue of $27,2 million, compared with $40,7 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008. The company also reported GAAP net loss of $3,4 million, or $0,28 loss per share. This compares with GAAP net loss of $0,8 million, or $0,07 loss per share, in the year-ago period. For the full year, revenue was $134 million and net loss was $106,7 million or $8,89 per share. This compares with 2008 revenue of $160,5 million and net profit of $1,7 million or $0,15 per share.

Despite a slowdown in 2009, global shipments of micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) microphones are set to more than triple from 2008 to 2013 due to their strong acceptance in mobile handsets and other applications, according to iSuppli. Worldwide MEMS microphone shipments are set to reach 1,1 billion units in 2013, up from 328,5 million in 2008. This strong growth will come despite a deceleration in shipment growth and a decline in global revenue in 2009, the first such contraction in the history of the market.
