The AD5770R digital-to-analog converter (DAC) from Analog Devices provides a small footprint with high power efficiency compared to many other available biasing solutions. The 6-channel device, which features a current output with on-chip reference and an SPI interface, is relevant for applications such as photonics control, LED driver programmable current sources, and current-mode biasing.

The small form factor of the chip allows for 100 Gbps/400 Gbps coherent data modules to migrate to small form factor CFP modules while still providing the necessary output signal ranges and performance required to bias the laser communications modules.

The digitally programmable current source, with multiple output ranges from –60 mA to 300 mA and 14-bit resolution, allows for a significant footprint reduction while maintaining high precision. Each DAC channel can operate with a wide power supply rail from 0,8 V to AVDD – 0,4 V, optimising power efficiency with a low dropout of 0,245 V.
