LEDs for automotive interiors and exteriors

25 February 2015 Opto-Electronics

Everlight Electronics launched several light sources for interior and exterior automotive applications at electronica 2014.

The interior models include a wide variety of product lines ranging from 0402 (metric), 0603, 0805 to 1206 chip LED package and PLCC series in compact package sizes and multiple colour tones for dashboards, audio and control panels. For monotone wavelength applications, 2 - 3 nm is provided for each bin range, enough to satisfy the high standards of car manufacturers for consistent interior decoration and colour.

For interior applications such as reading lights, near-natural light sources are available with a colour rendering index greater than 95 Ra, very close to the quality sunlight provides (100 Ra).

For the exterior, LEDs for car headlamps were released ranging from single-chip, 2-chip, 3-chip, 4-chip to a 5-chip package series. They achieve heat transmission of 170 W/m.K which is highly superior to the heat transmission and dissipation rates of traditional porcelain substrates.

The LED chips’ surfaces are packed closely together so that the light converges similarly to a single light source, thus providing a much clearer cut-off line required for headlights optics. These components are applicable for not only headlights, but also daytime running lights and fog lights.

For brake lights and signal indicators, Everlight offers a product line called Piranha AM EU(<0,5 W), including PLCC series, thus complementing the whole-car solution from inside to outside.
