PC/104-Plus power supply

27 June 2012 Computer/Embedded Technology

WinSystems announced its PPM-DC-ATX, a PC/104-Plus DC-DC power supply for PC/104, EPIC and EBX single board computers (SBCs) that support ATX power controls.

It features a wide voltage input range from 10 to 50 V, which allows the unit to operate with 12, 24 or 48 V battery-operated or distributed DC power systems.

The board generates five regulated DC output voltages from one common DC input, plus supports the software controlled shutdown and power monitoring for SBCs with advanced CPU chipsets employing sleep modes and active power management. Also, the unit can operate in a +85°C ambient temperature environment using normal convection cooling and no fan.

The PPM-DC-ATX employs a variety of synchronous and asynchronous, single and multiphase, buck and buck-boost topology DC-DC converters. The outputs are +5 V @ 10 A, +3,3 V @ 10 A, +12 V @ 3 A, -12 V @ 500 mA and +5 VSTBY @ 2 A. Each output is short circuit protected and current limited. A minimum load is not needed to bring the supply into regulation. When power is applied to the board, five LEDs will illuminate to provide visual feedback that power is available.

The ATX mode signals PS_ON# and PWR_ON are supported. There is also a connector for an ON/OFF switch for remote shutdown of the system; however, the standby +5 V source will continue to be active. For other accessories such as disk drives, there are two 4-pin connectors at the edge of the board to provide +5 V and +12 V. There is also a microATX connector that allows the +5 V, +3,3 V, +12 V, -12 V, and +5 VSB DC voltages plus the PS_ON and PWR_OK control signals to be brought off-board.

The board measures 90 x 96 mm, is RoHS-compliant, and can operate over an industrial temperature range of -40° to +85°C.
