Taoglas offers range of GPS, GLONASS and Iridium antennas

Antenna solution provider Taoglas continually expands its range of antennas targeting machine to machine (M2M) applications, and among its range, the manufacturer currently offers antennas for GPS, GLONASS and Iridium applications.

As an external combination GPS/Wi-Fi/LTE cellular solution, the Pantheon MA.700 is an omnidirectional, heavy-duty, fully IP67 waterproof external M2M antenna for use in telematics, transportation and remote monitoring applications. It combines a 3-in-1 GPS, cellular 700 MHz to 2200 MHz (2G/3G/4G) and 2,4 GHz/5 GHz antenna with very high efficiency and peak gain.

In order to reflect real performance in the field, the device’s specification is measured at 3 metres. The antenna screws down permanently onto a roof or metal panel and can be pole- or wall-mounted, while still maintaining 20 dB isolation between antennas.

It uses high-shielded PTFE dielectric ultra low-loss cables that maintain low attenuation at all frequency bands, and high noise rejection, with an average loss of only 0,3 dB per metre, compared to 0,7 dB for RG58 and 1,2 dB for RG174. Because of this, the Pantheon maximises the chances of passing PTCRB and network approvals first time.

The Pantheon also has excellent performance without the need to attach to an external ground-plane, due to its internal antennas coupling to its strong integrated metal base. The antenna comes with a 3M adhesive waterproof layer to prevent water leaking under the unit into the mounting hole.

The Pantheon can also be supplied in single GPS/cellular/Wi-Fi only versions, or at other frequencies. Custom designed integrated wall-mounted and pole-mounted brackets are available. These patent pending mounts allow for 180 degrees freedom of movement of the antennas for ease of positioning, while also preventing access to the cables so they cannot be cut by vandals or thieves and also protecting the cables from long-term weather exposure.

The removal of unsightly cables also leads to a cleaner, more professional installation and look, and makes the antenna less identifiable and more unobtrusive. Customised cable sleeves can be supplied for extra protection where required.

For applications in the 2,4 GHz–6 GHz range, the new-generation Hercules (Gen II) is a high-performance steel thread-mount, dual-band Wi-Fi antenna for external use on vehicles and outdoor assets worldwide. Omnidirectional high gain across all bands ensures constant reception and transmission. The WS.01 is an ideal solution for a Zigbee wireless mesh for remote applications such as remote metering.

Taoglas has developed an external magnetic mount active antenna range as part of its Dominator antenna series that has been optimised for the latest combination GPS/GLONASS receivers. It is a combined GPS/GLONASS magnet mount antenna which incorporates unique high gain wideband 35 mm patch antenna technology on a large integral ground plane.

The antenna delivers maximum performance at GPS and GLONASS centre frequencies by using a new double resonance design. It has a wide input voltage range of 1,8 V to 5,5 V in an IP67 housing. A unique feature is an in-house developed wideband frontend SAW to reduce out-of-band noise (traditional SAW filters that were developed for GPS don’t have the bandwidth to filter out-of-band noise at the new extended GLONASS frequencies).

According to Taoglas, the antenna has been rated and benchmarked by the leading GPS/GLONASS receiver module and chipset companies as best in industry.

The Iridium IP.1621 ceramic patch antenna is a low-profile (4 mm) small footprint antenna (25 x 25 mm) designed for Iridium devices. It has been specifically designed to provide excellent coverage in the 1616,0 to 1626,5 MHz range. It offers typical gain of 2 dBi at Zenith. The IP.1621 patch antenna is right hand circularly polarised thus matching the characteristics of the signal itself. These patches are mounted via pin and double-sided adhesive.

The Titan range of magnetic mount external GPS antennas is ideal for robust, covert installations where durability and small size are paramount. They are ideal for telematics and M2M applications for commercial vehicle installations, for fleet management, etc. Titan antennas are also widely used for consumer GPS devices when extra sensitivity is required, e.g. navigation devices and speed trap detectors.

The antenna inside is tuned for its housing, giving the end product maximum sensitivity. It was designed based on market feedback, making it small, waterproof and durable with high gain.

All external antennas are available with the cable and connector required to connect directly to the customer’s device.
