CST and MITECO host ZigBee seminar

11 July 2012 News

MITECO and CST Electronics recently hosted a ‘Good Morning ZigBee’ session at the Midrand Conference Centre. The event explored real-life communication problems and showed how they can be solved with the aid of a ZigBee wireless mesh network. Nineteen people, ranging from executives to engineers, participated in the seminar.

CST Electronics is a first class component distributor offering ZigBee solutions from Ember and Telegesis. MITECO specialises in the development of ZigBee based products and has to date developed products pertaining to smart metering, industrial process control, home automation, municipal load management, asset monitoring and control, and early warning security for a number of leading South African companies.

The morning kicked off with a presentation by Christo Keyser, field application engineer and product line manager at CST Electronics. This was followed by an interactive slide show and live ZigBee demonstration presented by Francois Minnaar, managing director of MITECO.

The slide show and demonstration were well received and prompted a couple of ‘real world’ questions from the audience. The questions were fielded by Keyser and Minnaar, as well as Morgan Commerford, MITECO’s technical director. The morning concluded with a networking session.

The aim of the session was to promote ZigBee wireless mesh network technology in South Africa, to show developers and decision makers that ZigBee is a unique wireless communication solution, and to offer a platform for ZigBee interested parties to network and share information.

More of these sessions are planned for later in the year.
