Taoglas has developed a new range of NFC (near field communications) antenna to make any device a mobile payment terminal.

The first off-the-shelf antenna product in the offering is a standard design – the FXR.01 – which operates at 13,56 MHz and provides a well matched solution (50 Ω) for NFC readers. The antenna measures approximately 54 x 37 x 0,1 mm and provides an average NFC tag read distance of 5 cm.

This flexible polymer antenna is provided with a coaxial cable connected to the antenna element for ease of connection to the chipset solution. It is also delivered with 3 m adhesive and tape for ease of assembly to a plastic enclosure by a simple ‘peel and stick’ method.

The antenna has an integrated matching circuit to provide effective antenna matching. The Q of the antenna/matching circuit combination has been selected to provide a solution where the bandwidth and read performance have been optimised for best tag interrogation performance.

Custom NFC antenna design is also offered by Taoglas, where the antenna area is maximised for a specific application in order to enhance interrogation distance.

Taoglas has also released a passive NFC tag antenna, the FXT.01. It measures 45 x 34 x 0,1 mm and is also a peel-and-stick flexible polymer tag solution. The tag design requires no additional matching components and is ready for direct connection to an NFC chip.

Like the FXR.01, the FXT.01 is dimensioned to provide interrogation capability to 5 cm distance. This standard antenna tag is also manufactured in Taoglas’ flexible polymer material for ease of use and installation. With NFC tags being commonly attached to the battery of mobile devices, the NFC tag can be customised with a ferrite layer to provide isolation from the battery or other components in the device the tag is integrated in.
