Built in the USA and offered in capacitance ranges from 1 500 μF to 22 000 μF, United Chemi-Con’s new U37 family of screw-terminal aluminium electrolytic capacitors provides high ripple current and long life to extend reliability in power-inverter systems. The family consists of three series:
The U37F Bulletin has an endur-ance rating of 5000 hours at +85°C with the rated ripple current applied. Useful life can exceed 150 000 hours at +45°C and 1,5 times the ripple current. The U37L Bulletin has an endurance rating of 10 000 hours at +85°C with the rated ripple current applied. Useful life is 175 000 hours at +45°C and 1,5 times the ripple current.
Finally, the U37X Bulletin has an endurance rating of 15 000 hours at +85°C with the rated ripple current applied. Its useful life is also 175 000 hours at 45°C and 1,5 times the ripple current applied.
Other specifications for the U37 family include voltage ratings from 350 to 500 V d.c., standard capacitance tolerance of ±20% and leakage current of 0,02 CV (μA) or 5 mA, whichever is smaller, after 5 minutes at +25°C.
A 12 000 μF, 500 V capacitor has a can size of 89 x 219 mm, maximum ESR (equivalent series resistance) of 8 mΩ at +25°C and 120 Hz, and rated ripple current of 33,5 A RMS at +85°C and 120 Hz, 40,2 A RMS at +85°C and 300 Hz, and 46,9 A RMS at +85°C and >3 kHz.
