Chip antennas for positioning systems

Johanson Technology has introduced two new chip antennas for positioning applications making use of GPS or GLONASS satellites.

The 1575AT54A0010 is compact (15 x 4 x 3,2 mm) and can replace more expensive patch antennas offering similar performance in small portable applications. It was designed to meet the increasing interest in 1 dBi+ gain satellite internal chip antennas that can operate in both GPS and GLONASS bands simultaneously.

For GPS location systems needing redundancy, the addition of new civilian-use signal is transmitted on a frequency other than the L1 (1,575 GHz). The L2C signal (1,227 GHz) is able to improve accuracy of navigation, provides an easy to track signal, and acts as a redundant signal in case of localised interference. The 1227AT45A0042 is aimed at such applications.
