DIN-rail computers for automation and control

8 April 2015 Computer/Embedded Technology

Computing power for automation and control generally needs to be compact, able to withstand harsh environments and have as many options as possible for communication. A compact computer that can be easily mounted and connected to the systems it is controlling means that installation time and future maintenance are kept to a minimum. Reliability is one of the most critical features when considering such a computer.

The DRPC range from IEI consists of compact, DIN-rail mountable computers with all of the features required for critical automation and control applications. These units are fanless and can operate in temperatures between -25°C and 65°C. They can be supplied from a DC source in the range of 9 – 28 V and feature a programmable OLED display.

The computers are powered by an Intel Atom N2800 or E3845 processor featuring low power consumption. They come in models with VGA and HDMI outputs, or VGA only, and pack up to 4 GB of RAM (DDR3 SO-DIMM). Onboard storage variously comprises 2,5” SATA, mSATA, SATA DOM and CompactFlash (depending on model) and a PCIe Mini expansion slot is provided for add-on functionality.

For communications, dual PCIe GbE LAN, four USB (3.0 and 2.0 depending on model), two RS-232, two RS-422/485, up to two CAN-bus, four digital inputs and four digital outputs are provided, with isolation protection on all ports.
