Wire-to-wire connectors

15 June 2016 Interconnection

AVX has released two new series of wire-to-wire (WTW) connectors that deliver cost and space savings in a broad range of industrial electronics designs: the new 9286-200 reduced through-wire connectors and 9286-250 reduced junction box connectors.

These latest additions to AVX’s industry-proven 9286 family of poke-home discrete WTW connectors feature an active stainless steel spring contact with mechanical properties that allow it to provide maximum wire retention for #18 – #24 AWG solid and stranded wire gauges. Capable of accommodating simple strip-and-poke-home wire insertion and twist-and-pull extraction (which is especially beneficial in field installations) these high-spring-force stainless steel contacts also effectively replace the pushbutton activation mechanism that traditional two-piece plug-and-socket WTW connectors require for wire insertion and removal.

Applicability of these connectors covers an array of industrial power and signal applications, including smart grid meters, breakers and panels; SSL fixtures, signage and streetlights; commercial building controls and security and fire sensors; and industrial machine controls, such as motors, drives, solenoids, sensors, fans and pumps.

Both new 9286 poke-home WTW connectors are rated for 300 V a.c. and operating temperatures spanning -40°C to +130°C, stand a mere 4 mm high, and measure a slight 16 mm in length. Available in one to six positions, the 9286-200 series reduced through-wire connectors measure between 8 and 24 mm in width, and have three current ratings: 3 A (#24 AWG), 5 A (#22 and #20 AWG) and 8 A (#18 AWG).

Available in four to eight positions, the 9286-250 reduced junction box connectors measure between 8 and 16 mm in width, and have four current ratings: 3 A (#24 AWG), 7 A (#22 AWG), 8 A (#20 AWG) and 9 A (#18 AWG). Both series also feature a glass-filled Nylon 46 insulator (UL94V0), copper alloy fixed contact materials with tin-over-nickel plating, and a durability of three cycles.
