Smartphone camera films on quantum dots

QuantumFilm technology from InVisage has been demonstrated for the first time with this short film shot by a smartphone camera with a sensor that uses quantum dots for improved sensitivity. Made up of a crystal of semiconductor material, a quantum dot has a diameter on the order of several nanometres and electronic properties somewhere in between those of bulk semiconductors and discrete molecules. Since their size distribution can be controlled during fabrication, properties such as bandgap, emission colour and absorption spectrum are highly tuneable.
