Key steps when implementing an enterprise resource planning solution

26 Jan 2000 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

The implementation of an enterprise resource planning(ERP) system requires careful planning;a detailed, tried and tested implementation procedure methodology must be followed to ensure that the benifits of a proposed solution are realised. In this article ,Graham Hartlett outlines the steps to cosider in correctly implementing an ERP solution for a company

RF Micro Devices is collaborating with ShareWave on the design of the radio used by ShareWave's OEM customers. Availability of a production radio based on this design was recently announced by VTech. The achievements made in the radio design were recognised with an 'Innovation 2000' award at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The ShareWave - RFMD radio design incorporates the RFMD 2,4 GHz radio chipset and is compatible with all IEEE-802.11b PHYs and basebands. Claimed to be the industry's lowest-cost 802.11b radio, it features a glueless interface to 802.11b media access controllers (MACs). The radio complements ShareWave's family of high-performance network controllers and Whitecap network protocol.

"The home is a challenging environment for radio frequencies," said Naresh Baliga, Vice President of Marketing at ShareWave. "Existing approaches fall short of real-world requirements. They either provide inadequate data rates, as with frequency-hopping systems or they lack a sufficiently robust link. By developing this product jointly with RF Micro Devices, we ensured that the ShareWave solution delivers the multimedia capability required for the home market."

"Working closely with a system designer like ShareWave allowed us to develop the system in a way that produced maximum performance at minimal cost," said A.J. Nadler, Director of the silicon systems product line at RFMD. "Our experience in cellular and consumer markets, combined with the economies of scale from high-volume manufacturing, allow us to drive costs down quickly."

Numerous analysts forecast high growth in the wireless home network market beginning this year. Cost-effective wireless solutions allow broadband service (such as cable modems and xDSL) to easily extend to computers and other devices throughout the home.

"The wireless home networking market is poised for exceptional growth, both domestically and internationally," said Larry Maguire, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Vtech (OEM). "We are pleased to work with ShareWave in contributing to the technology."
