Conical Technologies merges with Sema Electronics

8 February 2012 News

Conical Technologies, a local RF, microwave and electronic component sales and distribution company, has merged with Sema Electronics, a company specialising in design, manufacture and assembly of electronic systems for the communications, automotive and tracking industries.

“Sema Electronics will benefit the entire group,” said Conical’s chairman, Daniel Haywood, “and will help Conical Technologies in its mission to diversify the company and to comply with the South African government’s call for the creation of jobs in the engineering industry in South Africa by adding value to the components and parts we already supply to industry. We feel that this merger is beneficial to all of our employees because it qualifies Conical Technologies to bid on and accept government and other contracts, where the creation of employment and development of skills is a prerequisite. These are usually larger jobs and continue throughout the year.”

The skills brought by the staff of Sema Electronics are not only limited to electronic design and manufacturing, but also include custom software development of user interfaces and embedded software for a wide variety of applications.

The merger will bring about the following changes: Daniel Haywood will head up the company as chairman, Tebogo Mahlabegwana will be director of sales and marketing and Armand Jordaan will be the technical director, looking after all the electronic and software design and manufacturing.

Conical Technologies also moved into new premises in the Route 21 Corporate Park, with easy access to the R21 highway. The new address is; Unit 4, Carrera House, 19 Sovereign Road, Route 21.
