RS Components rode out in support of the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and in particular, the African Wild Dog, as part of its latest CSI initiative during the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge.
The project was initiated by the general manager of RS Components SA, Brian Andrew, and quickly spread to a number of RS employees. The decision was then taken to extend the size of the team by inviting non RS employees. The only requirement for any individual to ride with the Wild Dogs was to raise a minimum of R2500.

The RS pack is an EWT Corporate Explorer Sponsor, and also supports special events and donates products for field use. Recently, RS donated R25 000 to the EWT. These funds went towards the EWT African Wild Dog project. As a result of human overpopulation, habitat loss and predator control killing, the wild dog is now one of the most endangered carnivores in the world, with an estimated 5000 to 6000 African wild dogs left. They are extinct in 32 countries of their former range and are found in only seven countries. There are less than 500 wild dogs left in South Africa. They were therefore again selected as a worthy cause for a charitable donation.
With a total of 20 Wild Dog team members, a total of R55 800 was raised, with all funds going to the EWT African Wild Dog project.
Brian Andrew commented: “Without the efforts of the EWT and other organisations involved in the protection and breeding programs, this amazing animal would not survive. We hope that by doing our bit and getting others involved we could do something to protect these awesome animals for future generations.”
