Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
Thata uBeke Manufacturing, trading as TUB, is a South African manufacturer engaged in the design, development, manufacture and assembly of electronic and electrical components and finished products.
The company produces for the South African as well as international markets through the operation of three divisions: printed circuit boards (PCB), pulse induction technology (PI), and electrical harness and control panels.
The company commenced operations in 2006, incorporating, in 2009, operations formerly carried out by Muirlenium Technology which was started in 1999 with a core business centred around a land mine detection system that was integrated into a mine protected military vehicle. The businesses have evolved substantially in 12 years and currently TUB’s capacity has grown to producing approximately 3500 parts per month of varying complexity.
The company’s PCB division provides complete SMD and conventional PCB assembly and testing, and populates around 6000 printed circuit boards a month, with sufficient capacity for many more. Each of its pick and place machines has the capacity to place 34 000 components per hour, making a total capacity of 64 000 components per hour.
The harness division currently manufactures over 4500 vehicle harnesses per month, while the PI division manufactures more than 30 robotic systems per month, as well as manufacturing and testing approximately 150 electromagnetic search heads and 60 PI control boxes.
TUB currently employs close to 100 personnel and generates annual turnover in excess of R100 million. As for social responsibility, it is the proud owner of a generic level 6 BBBEE scorecard with a value added supplier (VAS) status equating to a procurement level 5. The company achieved ISO9001:2008 accreditation in early 2011 and is implementing ISO14001 this year.

The impact of harsh environments and ionic contamination on post-reflow circuit assemblies
MyKay Tronics
Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
There is well documented historical proof that post-reflow circuit assemblies, when subjected to harsh environments, are particularly vulnerable to failure mechanisms, but modern electronic assemblies are far more susceptible to this phenomenon.

Understanding solder dross: causes and control strategies
Truth Electronic Manufacturing
Editor's Choice Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
Dross formation is an inevitable consequence of wave soldering. It occurs when molten solder comes into contact with oxygen, forming metal oxides that float on the surface of the solder bath. Over time, this oxidation byproduct accumulates and must be removed to maintain solder quality and process consistency.
