Small form factor FO connector now safer

21 May 2003 Interconnection

Suhner Fiberoptic says that its new LX.5 design shows the way to higher standards for SFF connectors. In addition to a high packing density, it has an integrated metal shutter that provides for greater safety during operation.

The redesign of the popular LX.5 connector fills the gap between high packing density, high optical performance and optimal safety. The LX.5 is based on the 1,25 mm ferrule technology and is claimed to be the only standardised SFF connector featuring an integrated metal shutter. This safety shutter protects the user from the emitted laser light, especially in high power networks, as well as protects the ferrule surface against dirt and dust.

The compact design as well as the stable optical transmission performance qualify the LX.5 for applications in high power and telecommunication networks, and also in optical distribution systems and in LANs.

Optimised optical performance is provided by Suhner Fiberoptic's in-house tuning. The removable colour coding prevents misconnection in patch fields and the snap-in latch mechanism prevents unintentional disconnection and guarantees easy and safe handling.

The LX.5 product family includes the HighPower connector, the LX.5 adapter and the LX.5/LC adapter with SC footprint in all Suhner Fiberoptic performance classes.
