Webb Industries has become synonymous with antennas

2 July 2003 News

Webb Industries, a Jasco group company, could be considered to have become synonymous with the development of antennas to meet specific needs. Recent new antennas introduced by the company for both the local and international markets confirm this.

To address the European fleet management and asset tracking industry, Webb developed the MiniMica, a glass or covert mount GPS and dual band GSM antenna for use in the asset tracking industry.

For the asset security industry both locally and internationally, Webb developed a new antenna for satellite tracking. The Venus antenna is designed for use on two frequencies, GSM 900/1 800 and GPS systems with two separate coaxial cables. It will be used in the asset tracking industry, which uses the satellite network to position the asset.

A popular local unit is the new LP1000 shrouded Yagi antenna. This high gain GSM 900/1 800 band antenna is used for links when deploying Webb's range of GSM repeaters. In the absence of GSM coverage, the network operator will install a repeater and the high gain antenna will transmit and receive the signals at the repeater.

The company also recently introduced a unique directional antenna, the SiteLink, which is particularly useful in remote areas where connectivity infrastructure is poor. This is designed for the 2,4 GHz ISM frequency band, has a UV-stabilised ABS radome and is able to operate in harsh outdoor conditions. The swivel mount can vary elevation angles up to 20° from bore sight.

A new panel antenna developed by Webb meets the need for an inexpensive link and can be used in the ISM band for point-to-point data transfer systems using computer-to-computer connections. It can also be used as a sectoral broadcast antenna.

Another new covert antenna was recently developed by the company to meet the needs of the automatic vehicle location (AVL) market. The new MICA antenna, designed to be disguised as a licence disc holder, can be mounted on a windscreen or any non-metallic area of a vehicle. The standard licence disc can be displayed behind the antenna when fixed to the vehicle window and should the vehicle be stolen, the thief is unaware of the location of the antenna.

Webb also recently reached agreement with Radio Waves to market that company's range of high frequency microwave antennas throughout southern Africa. Radio Waves produces a most diverse range of high quality competitively-priced antennas for broadcast, unlicensed ISM and UN II bands, MMDS, Point to MultiPoint (PtMP) and Point-to-Point (PtP) microwave applications.

With the development of these antennas under its belt and a continuous research programme aimed at ensuring the needs of the local and international marketplace are served, Webb industries can justifiably claim to be a leader in antenna technology.
