Hot-swap 400 W power supply for power-over LAN applications

Power Electronics / Power Management
Power-One has introduced a powerful AC/DC power supply specifically designed for power-over-LAN applications. The 400 W PALS400 is a fully-enclosed power supply compliant to IEEE 802.3AF and provides isolation of 2250 V d.c. between the main output, all other outputs, and interface signals. With extremely low noise and ripple, the outputs of 12 V d.c. @ 16 A and 48 V d.c. @ 8 A are complemented with a 12 V d.c. @ 500 mA standby output to facilitate I2C interface operation.
An extremely power-dense product (0,38 W/cm3), the 26,4 x 10,2 x 4,1 cm package is designed for 1U high applications and features a front panel that includes alarm and monitor LEDs, AC input connector, on/off switch, integral handle, and a fan inlet. The hot-swap SSI type rear connector provides output power and access to I2C, power fail, active-current share, remote sense, output good, power-supply present, and remote enable interface signals.
Other features include internal-diode isolation for redundant operation of PALS400s, an 85 to 264 V a.c. input range, full-power operation to 50°C with power-derated operation to 70°C, IEC61000-3-2 compliant 98% efficient PFC, and inrush-current limiting. Protection features include overload and short circuit, brownout, over-temperature/fan fail warning and shutdown, output overvoltage, and MOV-input-transient protection. Agency approvals include UL60950/CSA 22.2 No. 60950, and EN60950 (TUV).
