Economical press-fit technology with flat press-in tool
16 July 2003Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
For backplanes, press-in technology is state-of-the-art. The other application area for male press-fit connectors is for single or double-sided SMT printed circuit boards. For these applications Erni has improved the right angle male Type C compliant press-fit connector. This version allows more economical press-in using flat press-in tools.
For PC board requirements the material should be Glass-Exoxid NEMA grade G10, G11, FR4 FR5 acc. To DIN 7735 Hgw-types or the DIN 40 802 EP-types. After the IR reflow solder process the connector is pressed in. The compliant press-fit area terminates the connector to the PCB.
Some features are: the new press-in version ensures full insulation of the pins down to the PCB and is high voltage proof; provides terminal-protection against mechanical damage or short circuits; and is easy and economical using flat press-in tools.
The major advantages of Ernipress is a gastight, corrosion-proof connector for longterm electrical and mechanical reliability. Also the connector has no thermal stress and there is no thermal load on the PCB.
