PCB plug connectors for high currents

30 July 2003 Interconnection

The PC 6 and PCU 6 PCB plug connectors from Phoenix Contact have been specially developed for use in high-current applications. Due to highly conductive metal alloys, the plug connectors offer low contact resistance and the associated performance as well. According to the derating curve, the connectors have a current carrying capacity of 41 A per single pin at a temperature of 50°C.

Particularly for large power or temperature fluctuations, a steel upper spring on the socket side provides additional contact security. Completely silver-plated metals provide constant surface quality for consistent contact engaging and separating forces.

The PCB plug connectors are designed for two to eight pins and in 10,16 mm pitch they can carry a rated voltage of 1000 V. The screw connection, suitable for flexible wires up to 6 mm2 and solid wires up to 10 mm2, makes use of the tension sleeve principle. The wave-solderable base housings are available in horizontal and vertical versions. A screw flange is available to secure the connection between the plug components and the base housing. The PCU 6 connector comes in two to nine-pin versions and offers additional flanges which can be attached directly in the housing.
