The MU small form factor connector from Hirose, comprises a wide variety of optical connections. A simplified structure, the MU simplified receptacle (MU-SR), provides a less expensive and simple connection between plugs and, for example, pigtailed (internal) devices. Fibre connection is achieved by using a simplified receptacle and an MU plug.
The simplified receptacle comprises an MU simplified plug, an alignment split sleeve and a plastic housing. The simplified plug is like an MU ferrule. This simplified configuration enables extreme high density mounting at low cost. It is available in 1, 2, 8 or 16 ports.
It is suitable for ODF, FTTx applications or low cost Metro (C)/(D)WDM transmission equipment. Compatible with IEC 61754-6, JIS C5983, IEEE 1355-95.
