International Rectifier's servo and motor drive module, the PIIPM15P12D007, is rated at 1200 V 15 A, and includes the bridge, brake and inverter (BBI) functions in a single unit. Servo and motor controls are used in precision industrial machinery.
Part of IR's iNTERO family of motor and servo drive modules, this module is a closed-loop control building block for high performance induction and brush-less motor and servo drives.
Protecting the motor from damage is of primary importance in motion control applications. Protection circuits in the new '007' module are designed to disable PWM operation, and use a 'double path' technique that assures redundancy and maximum safety. De-saturation, over-voltage and fault protection are enabled by IR's IR2214SS high voltage ICs.
The BBI module includes high performance sensing and protection circuits, such as current-sensing with greater than 10 kHz bandwidth and a latency of less than 5 µs on two motor phase outputs. It includes full protection from line-to-line and ground-fault failures, phase-to-phase, phase-to-ground, phase-to-DC bus and leg shoot-through, as well as under- and over-voltage on the DC bus. An embedded flyback power supply generates all internal supplies from a single 15 V input. In addition, all fault conditions are fed back to the DSP for software control.
Interfaces include a controller area network (CAN), JTAG IEEE 1149.1 standard port for program downloading and debugging, an asynchronous, isolated 2,5 Mbps serial port and a synchronous-isolated 10 Mbps serial port for DSP communication and programming.
