Line card protectors

13 August 2003 Circuit & System Protection

Bourns' TISP3xxxT3BJ is a dual 3-terminal protector with protection voltages ranging from 70 to 395 V. Two bi-directional protection elements are integrated into the single 3-pin SMB package. This unique device saves board space by replacing two conventional SMB devices with one 3-pin SMB. For example, two TISP4350T3BJ parts can be replaced by a single TISP3350T3BJ in line card applications.

The lightning withstand ratings have been carefully designed to allow equipment to comply with the standards in Europe, Asia and North America. The TISP3xxxT3BJ has been designed to minimise capacitive effects for data communications applications such as ADSL.

The TISP3xxxT3BJ is intended for use on Central Office or Access line cards where protection of conductors relative to ground is required. An xDSL design using two Bourns B1250T Telefuse telecom fuses could withstand all surges required by ITU-T K.20 or K.45 with no series resistance.

Target applications are ADSL line cards, integrated voice and data cards, and PABX in either central office or access locations.
