IR receiver modules provide 3 V operation over distances of 35 m

27 August 2003 Opto-Electronics Healthcare (Industry)

Vishay Intertechnology has added 14 new devices to its family of multifunction IR receiver modules for the remote control market. These modules provide high immunity to ambient light disturbances while operating over a distance of 35 m on supply voltages as low as 2,7 V.

The TSOP3xxxx receiver modules combine a PIN diode and preamplifier in a single package that measures 6,95 mm by 6 mm with a height profile of 5,6 mm, allowing designers to develop highly integrated, space-saving IR remote control systems for end products including toys, televisions, DVD players, VCRs, and other battery-powered, remote-controlled products.

The module's epoxy package doubles as an IR filter, while integrated automatic gain control (AGC) circuitry suppresses all kinds of light-source disturbances. Internal metal shielding protects against electrical field disturbances, and an internal band filter allows PCM frequency operation. The receiver modules are specified for a supply voltage range of 2,7-5,5 V.

The TSOP3xxxx series can operate with all common data formats, featuring a maximum data rate of 4000 bit/s. They are TTL- and CMOS-compatible. A demodulated output signal that can be directly decoded by a microprocessor facilitates use of the module in multimedia applications.
