The DS1340 serial realtime clock (RTC), a low-power clock/calendar with software clock calibration, offers more features than the pin-for-pin industry standard, claims manufacturer Dallas Semiconductor. The DS1340 is suited to portable instruments, point-of-sale and medical equipment, and telecommunications applications. It has dual power pins for primary and backup power supplies, and includes a programmable trickle charger. A 2-wire serial bus transfers address and data, and the oscillator runs down to 1,3 V.
The RTC maintains seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. The date at the end of the month is automatically adjusted for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year.
